This set is part of the 'Hot War' Art-of-Tactic range from Zvezda, modelling Soviet and US forces as they appeared around 1990. This set contains the basic US Mechanised infantry, with five figures meant to represent a unit such as a squad. The first figure is a squad leader and is carrying an M16A1 assault rifle with M203 grenade launcher attached. Next to him is what Zvezda describe as the 'anti-armour specialist' as he is using an AT4. The prone figure is labelled as using a SAW ('Squad Automatic Weapon'), which is in fact an M60 machine gun. Finally the repeated pose is of an ordinary rifleman carrying the M16A2 assault rifle. All the weapons are appropriate for the period and properly handled, and make for a fair reflection of a typical US infantry squad, at least as far as five figures can.
The men are all dressed alike, which is to say standard US Army uniform with PASGT helmets and vests, which along with the ALICE webbing they all wear makes these figures entirely accurate for the period. Every man has some form of assembly, which helps makes the poses very natural, while the poses themselves are simple but effective. The parts go together fairly easily with no need for glue thanks to the usual Zvezda engineering, although we did struggle to fully press home some of the arms on the figures. As always, the detail and general proportions on these figures is faultless, and there is nice detail on all the equipment, while important elements like the eye protection all the men have adds to the air of authenticity.
