A Civil War army tent was a simple, portable shelter used by soldiers during the American Civil War (1861–1865). Typically made of durable canvas, these tents came in various styles, such as the A-frame (wedge tent), Sibley tent, or wall tent. The A-frame tent was compact and easy to transport, ideal for individual soldiers or small groups. Wall tents, larger and more spacious, were often used by officers or for medical and administrative purposes. The Sibley tent, circular with a central pole, could house multiple soldiers and accommodate a stove for heating. These tents provided basic protection against the elements but offered little insulation, making life in the field challenging during extreme weather conditions.
