In WW2 the Germany Kriegsmarine wanted to build a new kind of ship, Grossflugzeugkreuzer A III, that was able to do air attack/supports while still doing commerce raiding like other ships. The designs came in at 1942 but any actual intentions to build one were slim (some could say it was a study like H44). This design resembles something like a carrier with an extended hull at the front for commerce raiding armament. The hulls were based on battleship/cruiser hulls.
