The year is 1914, and the world is at war. Archduke Ferdinand has just been assassinated in Sarajevo by a terrorist gunman. Austria-Hungary has declared war on Serbia in response to the assassination and the Serbian government’s rejection of their previous ultimatum. Russia, presenting itself as protector of the Slavic people, declares war on Austria-Hungary. Germany then declares war on the Entente, which is a newly formed alliance between Russia, Great Britain and France. Belgium sides with the Entente. In the Far East, China is neutral and Japan sides with the Entente.
As such, it is up to you the player to determine the outcome of this conflict.
The object of the game is as follows. The Allies must capture and hold the capitals of Austria-Hungary, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire, while the capitals of one of the Allied powers are in Allied hands.
The Central Powers must capture the victory cities of Paris, Rome, Petrograd, London, Kiev, Washington DC, and Cairo. The Central Powers can also choose as a victory condition to take the capitals of Russia, France, and Britain. If the Central Powers player decides to choose this as a victory condition, the Central Powers players must capture and hold these 3 capitals, while one or more of the Central Powers capitals are still held by a Central Powers player.
