The concept for the H-44 class battleship were made under Hitler's planned expansion for the Kriegsmarine known as War Plan Z. The H-44 would have displaced 131,000 tons, more than twice that of the Japanese Battleship Yamato which was projected at 69,000 tons. Capable of 30 knots and armed with 20-inch main guns, the H-44 would be a truly formidable weapon. The H-44 was also equipped with (12) 5.9in (150mm) and (16) 4.1in (105mm) guns. For air defense it was equipped with (68) 20mm and 37mm AA guns. An H-44 would have been able to carry up to (9) Arado Ar-196 reconnaissance seaplanes.
