ID: Plastic transport gaming piece: Hakusan Maru transport from the game Axis & Europe 40 & Pacific 40.
The Story of the Hakusan Maru: Like all of the combatant nations, the Japanese made maximum use of any ship it could get its hands on to support its war effort. The Story of the Hakusan Maru represents just one case that illustrates this: built originally as the USS Federal , it had originally been an American freighter acquired by the US Navy to support its war effort in the last war, World War I. Serving in this capacity, she made several trips, carrying everything from horses to hay to hospital personnel... after the war she was eventually sold to a British firm, who renamed her the Federlock and who, in turn, chartered her to a Japanese operator. When war broke out in December 1941 she was seized by the Japanese government, after which she was renamed the Hakusan Maru. She had a reasonably eventful carrier as a Japanese transport until she was finally sunk by an American transport in 1945.
Usage Notes: Use this piece for “Global 1939†and “Invasion of Italy†Variants as a transport unit. Other Japanese warships of interest may be: the Yamato class battleship, & the Shinano class aircraft carrier.
