Canadian Ram Kangaroo APC WW2
The Canadian Ram Kangaroo converted surplus Ram tank hulls into tracked armored personnel carriers. Removing the tank’s turret created protected space for infantry. Canadian and British formations used these vehicles in northwest Europe, where they helped troops accompany armor through defended ground. Their purpose was infantry protection and mobility, not direct tank combat. The Ram’s relative lack of frontline gun-tank service made surplus hulls available for conversion, allowing a useful new role to emerge from existing industrial investment. Kangaroo units developed methods for loading, movement, and dismounting in cooperation with infantry. Their success depended on organization and tactics as well as the protection offered by the hull.
