Chinese VT-4 Main Battle Tank

The VT-4 is a Chinese export main battle tank associated with Norinco. It was developed for foreign customers rather than simply being the export name of the People’s Liberation Army’s Type 99A. Its design combines a modern gun, protection measures, mobility, and electronic systems within a commercially offered armored platform. Customer versions and later upgrades may differ. The subject’s history belongs to China’s contemporary defense-export industry, not to the operational record of an older Soviet tank bearing a superficially similar layout.

Developed by China for export, the VT-4 belongs to a different procurement stream from the Chinese army’s Type 99A. Customer equipment and support arrangements can vary, making the export designation important when discussing its operational users.
