Hermes 900 Drone

The Elbit Hermes 900 is an Israeli medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aircraft developed from the company’s earlier unmanned-aircraft experience. It carries surveillance and other mission equipment in a relatively large airframe and has been adopted by several operators. Different payloads and national configurations provide distinct surveillance and mission capabilities within the same aircraft family.

The aircraft first flew in 2009, offering greater payload and endurance capacity than the earlier Hermes 450. Its missions can include electro-optical observation, maritime surveillance, communications support, and other tasks depending on the installed systems. Operators acquire different ground stations, links, and payload packages, affecting the capability of the complete system. Unmanned flight still requires trained personnel, maintenance, and command arrangements. Its development reflects the growing use of persistent airborne sensors rather than a direct replacement for every function of crewed combat aircraft.
