Israeli Merkava Mk IV Main Battle Tank

The Israeli Merkava Mk IV continued the family’s emphasis on crew protection while introducing major changes in turret, power plant, electronics, and other systems. It carries a one-hundred-and-twenty-millimeter gun and has appeared in successive configurations. Active-protection installations belong to particular versions and dates rather than every original Merkava Mk IV from the beginning of production.

Production followed the earlier Merkava Mk III, with the new version entering service in the 2000s. Its larger engine output, revised turret shape, and digital systems supported improved mobility and combat management. The rear hull access retained a distinctive family feature associated with crew protection and practical battlefield support. Later Trophy-equipped versions added an active defense against certain incoming anti-tank threats. Combat experience and successive upgrades mean that the Mk IV label covers meaningful differences in protection and electronic equipment over time.
