Italian Cant Z.1007 Alcione Medium Bomber

The CANT Z.1007 Alcione was an Italian three-engine bomber developed before the Second World War. Its wooden structure and trimotor layout reflected Italian aviation choices of the period. It served in bombing operations in the Mediterranean and other theaters, while different versions incorporated changes such as tail arrangements. The Alcione retained three engines while contemporary British and German designs often standardized on two or four. Wooden construction could create repair challenges in harsh climates. It served over the Mediterranean and against targets connected with Britain’s island bases, while production changes attempted to improve handling and reliability. The airframe reflected Italy’s distinctive three-engine bomber tradition.
