Description
U.S. CH-46 Sea Knight Helocopter
The Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight used tandem rotors and became a major medium-lift helicopter of the United States Marine Corps. It carried troops and supplies and supported casualty evacuation, especially during the Vietnam era and later expeditionary operations. Its transport purpose distinguished it from attack helicopters, while tandem rotors allowed a spacious cabin without a conventional tail rotor. The tandem-rotor arrangement distributed lift across the airframe and supported a useful cargo cabin, while requiring its own maintenance and handling procedures. Marine operations linked the helicopter to ships, landing zones, and supply systems ashore. Sea Knight history is consequently inseparable from the organization of air mobility, not merely the specifications of an individual aircraft.
