Canadian Otter Armored Car
The Otter was a Canadian light armored reconnaissance car developed during the Second World War using commercial automotive components. It served with Canadian and other Allied forces in reconnaissance and liaison duties.
General Motors of Canada built the Otter on a Canadian Military Pattern automotive foundation. The vehicle normally carried a Bren light machine gun and a Boys anti-tank rifle, weapons consistent with a light reconnaissance role. Canadian wartime records distinguish it from the Fox armored car and smaller Lynx scout car. Otters operated in Italy and northwest Europe. Their commercial components connected specialized reconnaissance equipment with Canada’s much larger contribution to Allied military truck production.
