Italy’s Carro Armato Celere Sahariano was an experimental fast-tank project developed with North African conditions in mind. Its design reflected interest in mobility and the lessons of contemporary armored warfare. The prototype did not lead to series production, and the project was overtaken by wartime events. The Sahariano’s name reflects its intended desert context, where mobility and mechanical reliability were central concerns. Italy’s armored industry faced competition for engines, materials, and production capacity. A prototype could explore a promising answer without reaching a stage at which crews, maintenance systems, and sufficient vehicles existed to create an operational formation. No series production followed.
