Turkey Cavalry WWII
Turkey retained cavalry formations during the Second World War while maintaining armed neutrality for most of the conflict. Mounted troops remained relevant to reconnaissance, security, and movement in terrain with limited roads. Turkey’s late declaration of war did not produce a major overseas cavalry campaign; the figure belongs chiefly to the country’s wartime military establishment and regional defense preparations. Turkey’s location made the defense of straits, frontiers, and communications a continuing concern even while it avoided major belligerent participation. Maintaining readiness imposed supply and training demands on its forces. Cavalry could remain useful within that defensive establishment without requiring the figure to be assigned an invented campaign against one of the main wartime coalitions.
