Type 2 Ka-Mi Amphibious Tank w/ Floats

The Japanese Type 2 Ka-Mi was an amphibious tank developed for naval landing forces. Detachable flotation arrangements allowed it to travel through water before operating as a tracked vehicle ashore. Its design responded to Japan’s extensive island and coastal requirements, but limited production and the changing Pacific war constrained its employment. A model with floats is distinct from the land configuration after flotation equipment was removed, rather than treated as a separate unrelated tank type.

Detachable flotation equipment allowed the light tank to move through water before operating ashore. Japanese naval landing forces used the type, whose amphibious capability served a specialized mission rather than providing the armor protection of a heavier land tank.
