Description
U.S. Titan IIIC Rocket
The Titan IIIC was an American launch vehicle that combined a central liquid-fueled rocket with large solid boosters and an upper stage for demanding space missions. It formed part of the United States’ Cold War space-launch infrastructure, carrying important military and other payloads. Its history belongs to orbital launch operations, not simply to the battlefield employment of an intercontinental ballistic missile. The IIIC is distinct from both the earlier Titan II missile and later Titan launch vehicles.
Its solid-propellant strap-on boosters supplemented a liquid-fueled core, while the restartable Transtage upper stage supported demanding orbital missions. The launcher carried military communications and other national-security payloads during the expansion of American space infrastructure.
